U Snooze, U Booze! - LudemDare Version
U Snooze, U Booze! - LudemDare Version
The alcohol won't stop coming in, your brain starts to fight against you, how long can you last before you pass out?
About the game:
This game was made to be a submission for LudemDare 40 - Compo, which was held between December 2nd - 3rd, 2017. The topic for the game-jam was:
"The more you have, the worse it is."
Game Design:
In order to comply with the LudemDare Compo requirements, here is a list of everything that went into building this game:
- All the functionality and scripts are written in C# on the Unity Engine. (Source Code).
- All the artwork, sprites and graphics are made from ground up on Asperite.
- All the sound effects in the game are vocally recorded by myself.
- All the background music sequences are generated using Wolfram Tones.
- The two fonts used are 'La Tequila' and 'Acknowledge', which are free to use for non-commercial purposes.
- The entire game's files were made within a discontinuous span of 60-70 hours including development. (Greater than 48 hours, as it was a failed submission).
How-to-Play:
I strongly suggest the players to play the game multiple number of times to understand how the game works. Although not perfect, I have attempted to make it understandable progressively, as you keep playing it.
Here is the fleshed out explanation of how to play. You're continuously bombarded with drinks, which you should prevent to drink by punching in the directional (up, right, down & left using the arrow keys) sequence displayed on the dashboard, before the time runs out (as shown by the blue timer bar, on the dashboard).
Few seconds into the game, you start to encounter non-alcoholic drinks (Water, Cola and an Energy Drink) for which you should not input anything, to let the player consume the drink. Consuming non-alcoholic drinks helps in reducing the 'Booze-o-Meter' value. However, consumption of alcohol drinks (Beer Pint, Beer Bottle, Vodka Shot, Whiskey, Martini, Margarita and Wine) increases the 'Booze-o-Meter' value.
Also, a little more into the game, you encounter a red logic light. The logic light which was initially green, dictated the actions required for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks respectively. For a red logic light, the actions get inverted, i.e. you are expected to input nothing and wait for an alcoholic drink and punch in the sequence for a non-alcoholic drink. This is supposed to be reflective of how an individual fights to convince/manipulate themselves when inebriated and crippled with poor judgement.
As the 'Booze-o-Meter' value increases, the circumstances get tougher. Once the player peaks to the maximum 'Booze-o-Meter' value, they pass out and the game ends.
Controls:
- Directional Inputs (Up, Left, Down, Right): W, A, S, D (or) Arrow Keys.
- Pause Game: Escape
Failed LudemDare Submission:
This was my first attempt in building a game for LudemDare, and also my first fully playable standalone game, ever. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to finish the project within the deadline of the game-jam due to various reasons including, Unity Engine crashing and losing 4 hours of work. I've recently finished my planned game for the LudemDare submission. Let's hope I get better at planning and estimation in game building for the next LudemDare and also, always use (local, atleast) source control. :P
